Journal Entries

Post manual debits and credits to the general ledger.

Overview

A journal entry is a set of debit and credit lines that must balance. Most entries are created for you by invoices, bills, payments, payroll and depreciation; use a manual entry for adjustments, accruals and opening balances.

Once posted an entry is immutable. Reversing creates a second opposite entry and leaves the first in place, so the General Ledger always shows both.

Journal Entries in the Accounting module.

When to use journal entries

  • Month-end accruals and adjustments.
  • Opening balances when you start using Xetuu.
  • Corrections that no document can express.

Lifecycle

DraftPosted

A posted entry stays posted; a reversal is a separate opposite entry linked to it.

Accounting impact

  • Posting writes the lines to the ledger and updates every report that sums posted activity.
  • Locked fiscal periods and lock dates reject the entry.
